The Silver Arrow of Tomorrow

If it took four years and 1.3 billion dollars just to design the entry-level 2001

C-Class, you can imagine just how much time and money Mercedes had put in

for the development of the Vision SLR. Powered by a potent AMG-tuned

557-horsepower supercharged V8, the SLR can reach 60 miles per hour from a

standstill in 3.9 seconds (est)!

The interior (or should I say cockpit) of the SLR is very futuristic, with

ultra-exotic materials and state-of-the-art technology. The body and the chassis

are made out of lightweight carbon-fiber-and-aluminum. The disc brakes are

made of fiber-reinforced ceramic, making them 67% lighter and twice as heat

resistant as cast-iron discs. This contributes to its light weight.

In 2003, the SLR will make the jump from concept to reality. That is a queer

thought, since 2003 is just around the corner. The SLR will be built in Woking,

England. About 500 will be built each year.
